Gillingham v Rotherham, tues 17th April, The Priestfield Stadium
With Gillingham being way down south there was no way we were going to make it on a Tuesday night, so it was another night in the company of Fake Jeff. He was joined once again by the most boring expert on TV, Ryan Mason. No matter as he wasn’t commentating on our game. No one was. We didn’t even have anyone there, just the disembodied voice. Even Chris joined us on the sofa, eager to see the Millers edge ever closer to a play-off berth.
A hardy 142 souls had made the trip though, and hats off to them
It was also the maiden outing of our telly being in split screen mode, where we can watch a match and keep an eye on FJ all at the same time. Amazing!
Warneola started with an unchanged team, once again with only Michael Smi ith up front.
My wine and I had only just taken my seat from doing the washing up when FJ went over to the blank screen at the Priestfield Stadium. Rotherham looking to cement their play-off place had scored. Will vaulkes. Shot from the edge of the box. Couple of points here.
1. Now is NOT the time to imply that play-off place is nailed on FJ.
2. No mention of the Vaulkes flip.
After we had finished cheering I searched twitter and came up with this
1-0 the Millers. But a long way to go.
Thankfully FJ had no need to return to the blank screen in Kent and half time came with the score still 1-0
We refilled our refreshments and put the chairs up (except Chris who can’t) and settled in for one of the most nerve racking 45mins of the season. Every time FJ announced another goal we prayed he wouldn’t be headed to the Priestfield. With one eye on Twitter we found that the Gills has had a few chances from set pieces, and that Richard wood had made a run of half the length of the field before unleashing a shot that stung the keepers fingers. After what seemed like four hours, the videprinter started to show full times. After another four hours our result came up. Gillingham 0 Rotherham 1. Three vital points were returning from Kent. Victory over Bristol on sat would confirm our play-off place. Well done to these guys and the 142 who cheered them off the pitch.
Three games left. Next up Bristol Rovers at home.
