You don't know what you're doing.....part 2 (ft Trevor Kettle)

Rotherham vs Charlton Athletic, sat 26th August, NYS, 0-2

The bad news came to us early on Thurs morning, the ref for this game would be a Mr T. kettle. You may laugh at the name, Rotherham fans do not. The name brings anger and outrage to every Miller and has for the past 12 years. It all stems from a game at Oakwell, Barnsley, in 2005. Mr T sent off three Rotherham players, sent the manager to the stand, and allowed a Barnsley equaliser to stand after 5 of an added 3 minutes, an equaliser that never actually crossed the line. Bitter? You bet.

The game was our first home league game of the season, having missed the Brazil like thrashing of Southend due to hols. The day dawned bright and sunny.

The Charlton fans were sparse, not surprising as the M1 was closed and trains cancelled due to engineering.

I even had a short conversation with OMOTE, regarding our holiday. John turned up late, having been stopped at the turnstile trying to enter the ground on a child's ticket. After a dressing down he was allowed to upgrade to an adult.

Then the match started and it went downhill from there.

As good as we had apparently been vs Southend, we were that bad here. Proctor and Moore were trying upfront, but the Charlton number 10 was running Emmanuel ragged. 'I like Proctor' I told vicky. 'He's really strong, reminds me of Alex Revell'. Our defence proved to be anything but strong though, as a Charlton player scored from a corner. 0-1 at half time

Mr Kettle had been his usual fussy self but done nothing too drastic until Jamie Proctor was pushed off the ball in the centre circle. He fell to the ground screaming and waving his arm for attention, clearly in a great deal of pain. Mr Kettle looked, but ignored him and played on. Our players were distracted and Charlton scored again in the meantime. 2-0. Eventually the 'referee' allowed our trainer on. A stretcher was immediately called for, and Proctor carried off the pitch.

The mood turned ugly, with the fans taking out their frustration on Trevor. JCH came on, having failed to secure a loan move, but failed to save the Millers and the game ended 0-2. A poor Millers performance for sure, but once again Mr Kettles performance left a sour taste in the mouth.
