Wet, wet, wet

Rotherham vs Lincoln, Caraboa Cup, Round one. Tues 8th August. 2-1.

As we all know, The Caraboa Cup was once the EFL cup was once the Capital one cup was once the Carling cup was once the league cup. The first winners of the league cup in 1961 were Aston Villa, beating Rotherham United in the final. We have a history in this competition.

On Tues 8th August 2017 it rained. And rained. And rained. As the time came to leave for the match it got heavier, so we roped Chris in for a lift. He dropped us outside spoons as the rain became torrential. By the time we arrived at the stadium we were all soaked. Luckily the rain was driving downwards not across and our seats had remained dry.

Good news. OMOTE has renewed his season ticket on the end, ginger having been ousted. Rob was there, as was chatty man in front, whose name I have ascertained is Keith. Two of the party behind had also ventured out, as had an impressive number of Lincoln fans who were in fine voice. Our fans, presumably having witnessed Saturdays defeat and being resigned to relegation were not. No sign of Jamie Proctors magic hat.

Paul  Warne had made some changes for this game, bringing in Ibra (Williams) on the wing, and Bale (Moore) up front. Plus Joe Newell replacing Ian's favourite, Taylor. They all had really good games, with Moore in particular linking up really well with Proctor. To such an extent that proctor found himself in space on the edge of the box and Bam, 1-0. He certainly knows where the goal is does Jamie. It was a very open game with both teams having chances but the score remained 1-0 at the break. And still it rained.

Due to the cold August air and being soaked, Vicky and I were frozen, and were very glad when the second half began. Once again it was very open, until Rotherham managed to do their customary cock up at the back. Semi and O'Donnell did their best Chuckle brothers impersonation of 'to me, to you' leaving a Lincoln player to nip in and score. 1-1. Same old, same old.

Warne made a change, bringing on Forde, and that proved a master stroke as he found himself on the end of a wonderful Joe Mattock cross to tuck the ball into the bottom corner. 2-1.

We managed to see the game out from that point, despite a couple of scares, and were victorious for the first time in what seemed like eons. Not only that but we were in the second round of a cup competition! All eyes will be on Thursday nights draw.
