Hot, hot, hot

Peterborough United vs Rotherham United, 19th Aug 2017, 2-1

On the day that Rotherham United faced Peterborough United at their London Road ground, we rose to a bright and sunny morning in Zahora, on the Costa de la Luz, Spain. After giving the house a perfunctory clean up, sufficient to reclaim the deposit we had paid, we said goodbye to the Clarkes and headed back to Malaga to catch the plane home. We rolled through the Spanish countryside comfortable in the knowledge that is was 0-0 up to half time. As we neared our selected lunch stop of Marbella, Vicky announced that we had equalised. She hadn't wanted to give us the bad news that we had fallen behind in the 47th minute. The scorer? Keifer Moore of course. We found a very clean (and expensive) underground car park, and located a nice fish restaurant, where we sat outside.

After I had explained that Marbella was the hideout of lots of expat criminal masterminds, we decided that our waiter was probably part of the Spanish mafia, one of the henchmen who stays silent after witnessing atrocious crimes. He certainly didn't have much to say for himself. The meal was spoiled by the news that Peterborough had taken the lead on 73.

We had a wander along the front after lunch, it's a lovely town that we wouldn't mind spending longer in

We bought a few souvenirs and visited an ice-cream shop, where vicky gave us the devestating news that the match had ended leading to a new RUFC record of matches since an away victory.

Vicky in tears after the result comes in

The final hour of our journey was completed and we arrived at the airport, easily finding the car hire return area (see the walters family California road trip for previous problems in that area). A very, very pleasant young man checked our baggage and we passed through security in about 5mins. None of the horror stories of hour long waits at Malaga are true, although mum did try and bypass the scanner, accompanied by some laughter from the security staff!

We had a bit of tea, and I passed the time watching people ram dogs into holdalls, and playing spot the plastic surgery. A relatively easy game. No sooner had our gate opened than it was on last call. It became aparant why pretty soon. Our gate was an approx 5mile walk and the airline just wanted to get everyone moving in that direction sooner rather than later.

We departed Malaga early (travel Jet2, they are great!) and were soon headed for home and the rest of the season that has had ups and downs already.

The next day we found out that Peterborough had had a 'goal' denied that was clearly over the line, and Semi had made what is becoming a trademark error for their winner. Next up Huddersfield in the league cup
